Council Considering Ambulance Contract

Share

For the first time in the city’s history, the City Council on Tuesday will consider entering into negotiations with Care Ambulance Service Inc. to develop a formal contract for emergency transportation services.

Proposals from five private ambulance companies were submitted, including one from the city’s current provider, American Medical Response. Anaheim has an informal service agreement with that company.

Fire Chief Jeff Bowman said the contract could be worth as much as $10 million over three years.

The contract would be for three years, renewable for three more years if the city is satisfied with the service.

Care Ambulance received the highest scores and was the unanimous choice among independent panel members selected to evaluate proposals.

“Care put forth the best proposal for providing services to our community,” Bowman said.

Medix and American Medical Response ranked second and third respectively.

A contract is expected to be in place by July 1, but that could change depending on council approval or the outcome of negotiations.

The special meeting to consider the ambulance contract will begin at 5 p.m. in the council chambers, 200 S. Anaheim Blvd. At 6 p.m., there will be discussion of adult businesses. Information: (714) 765-5166.
