Here is a sampling of Memorial Day ceremonies around Los Angeles County:

* Westwood, 8 a.m.: The 109th Memorial Day Observance at the Los Angeles National Cemetery, 950 S. Sepulveda Blvd. At the end of the service, flowers will be picked up by a helicopter crew and dropped over the ocean.

* Edwards Air Force Base, 9 a.m.: The 27th annual POW/MIA/KIA Memorial Golf Tournament, at the Muroc Lake Golf Course at Edwards Air Force Base. Proceeds will benefit Antelope Valley high school graduates and college students planning careers in the aerospace industry.

* Los Angeles, 10 a.m.: A ceremony marking the name change of the East Los Angeles interchange to the Eugene A. Obregon Memorial Interchange. Various local and state political figures are expected to attend, including Assembly Speaker Antonio Villaraigosa and Lt. Gov. Gray Davis. Veterans Memorial Park, Lorena and Cesar Chavez avenues.

* Los Angeles, 10 a.m.: A Memorial Day rally, “In Loving Memory of Homeless Vets,” at Patriotic Hall, 1816 Figueroa St. Plans include a tribute to Celes King of the Congress of Racial Equality and discussion of plans to eradicate homelessness.

* Rancho Palos Verdes, 10 a.m.: A tribute to military and law enforcement personnel who have died in the line of duty. Keynote speaker: Capt. Luther Smith, a former Tuskegee 332nd Fighter Group aviator in World War II. Green Hills Memorial Park, 27501 S. Western Ave.

* Canoga Park, 11 a.m.: 10th annual Memorial Day Parade. This year’s theme: “Proud to be an American.” Parade is scheduled to begin at Sherman Way and Owensmouth Avenue, proceed east to De Soto Avenue, south to Vanowen Street and west to Jordan Avenue.

* Burbank, 11 a.m.: A Memorial Day ceremony co-hosted by the Burbank Veterans Commemoration Committee. Plans include a flyover by the Condor Squadron. McCambridge Park War Memorial, San Fernando Boulevard and Amherst Drive.
