Goodwill Industries of Southern California plans to open a new Van Nuys location, complete with a career resource center and a used computer section.

“The computer recycling store will be the first of its kind besides the one in our main offices,” said Richard Guise, a community relations manager for Goodwill.

The new store, scheduled to open June 13, will also have a career resource center where people will be able to use a computer to search for jobs in the area. The career center is scheduled to open two weeks after the main store opens.

“We saw a need in the Valley to expand our stores, and we needed a career center in the area,” Guise said.

The new Van Nuys store, at 14550 Victory Blvd., is scheduled to be open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., although the hours may change, agency officials said.

Retail goods will account for most of the space in the 12,000-square-foot store. Although the majority of the inventory will consist of clothes, the store will also have furniture, electrical appliances and toys, Guise said.

Goodwill Industries is a nonprofit agency whose mission is to provide job training and job placement programs for people with vocational disadvantages and disabilities, Guise said.

“Ninety percent of the revenue we need to run our services is generated from the revenue of our stores,” he said.

The Van Nuys store will be Goodwill’s 21st in California. In the Valley, the organization also has stores in Canoga Park, North Hollywood, Panorama City, Reseda and San Fernando.
