Volunteers Needed for House Building

Share

The nonprofit organization Habitat for Humanity of Ventura County is seeking volunteers to help build its third home in Thousand Oaks over the next two months.

The group builds homes and sells them at low prices to low-income residents, with the goal of eliminating substandard housing and homelessness.

Habitat volunteers will work on the foundation and frame for the home on 193 Flittner Circle on Saturday beginning at 8 a.m. The construction of the home’s frame, similar to an Amish barn-raising, will take place June 6 starting at 7 a.m.

The reason for the venture is to “give people and families a chance to own a home and because it’s the right thing to do,” said Annette Houchin, office manager at Habitat for Humanity of Ventura County.

The home is intended for Thousand Oaks resident Connie Gutierrez and her three daughters for a price of $63,000. The home will be named “Target House” after Target Stores, which is sponsoring the home and will provide subcontractors, labor and some financial help.

Residents who wish to volunteer can call Betty Rae Hall at 492-6039.
