Brunner Pleads Not Guilty to Attempted Murder Charge
Kenny Brunner, the former Fresno State and Georgetown basketball player arrested Saturday for armed robbery, has been charged with attempted murder.
Brunner, 19, was arraigned Wednesday at Los Angeles Municipal Court and pleaded not guilty to charges that he robbed L.A. City College basketball Coach Mike Miller of $1,500 at gunpoint, said a spokeswoman for the L.A. District Attorney’s office.
The attempted murder charge stems from allegations by witnesses who said Brunner pointed a semi-automatic handgun at Miller and pulled the trigger, according to sources close to the investigation.
The gun did not fire and Miller was not injured.
A former standout point guard at Compton Dominguez High, Brunner is due back in court June 10 to set a preliminary hearing date and remains in custody on $550,000 bail, said Victoria Pipkin, spokeswoman for the District Attorney’s office.
Jerome Bradford, Brunner’s attorney, declined to comment.
Ladale Dennis Lunnie, a 20-year-old student at L.A. City College, was charged with robbery for his alleged role.
