A 30-year-old woman shot her companion as he slept in the motel room they shared Friday night before turning the gun on herself, Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies said Saturday.

The bodies were found by employees of the Best Rest Inn at Flying J Travel Plaza truck stop in Gorman after they failed to check out as scheduled at noon Saturday.

Deputies did not immediately release the names of the woman and the 35-year-old man, nor would they say whether the couple were married. The motel employee only said the man was from out of state and the woman from Southern California.

Apparently, no one at the motel heard any shots, deputies and motel staff said.

The housekeeper suspected something was wrong when the figures on the bed did not stir after she noisily unlocked the door. Hotel staff called 911 about 12:55 p.m., deputies said.
