SHOSHONE--Relive the old days in Death Valley at the Old West Celebration on Nov. 7. Gunfights, craft and gem shows, musical entertainment, children’s games and historical costume and Dutch-oven-cooking contests are among the activities, which start at 8 a.m. and go into the night. LUCERNE VALLEY--The whole town takes part in the annual Holiday Faire, Nov. 6-8, an event in the high desert community on California 18. RIDGECREST--Venture up, up and away to the Ridgecrest Balloon Festival, a three-day affair beginning at 3 p.m. Friday, Nov. 6, with balloon races, entertainment and the Desert Star Party. Events Nov. 7-8 include a street fair, entertainment, balloon rides, dancing and barbecue from 6 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. Exit Highway 14 at Inyokern and follow the signs. PALM DESERT--In a town where many can claim “my other car is a golf cart,” the 34th annual Golf Cart Parade is more than merely symbolic. On Nov. 8, unusual and creatively decorated carts will parade down El Paseo, from San Luis Rey to California 74, at 1 p.m. A block party follows ‘till dusk. Free. (760) 346-6111.
