Convention Targets New Century, Computing

The National Assn. of Realtors, which convenes later this week in Anaheim, plans to unveil results of its most comprehensive study of the housing market.

The millennium project analyzes housing prospects for the first two decades of the new century, including the demographic and economic influence of baby boomers, Generation X and those born after 2000.

In addition, the conference will analyze how computer technology is reshaping the industry. Members will see more than 1,000 exhibits featuring the latest high-tech software and gadgets, as more real estate professionals use laptops and wireless technology to write up deals from their car and advertise on the Web.

A Web site that lists homes on the Internet, https://www.realtor.com, has grown ninefold in usage between 1995 and 1997, and it registers more than 340 million hits a month, a trade group spokesman said.

The convention, which is expected to draw more than 17,000 people, runs Friday through Monday.
