A man has been charged with the attempted murder and stalking of his wife in September 1996, a Santa Ana police spokesman said Thursday.

Frank Vince Lopez, 27, is being held without bail at the Santa Ana Jail in connection with the shooting of Gloria Lopez, Santa Ana Police Sgt. Phil Archer said. Lopez allegedly shot his wife as she was walking with a co-worker in the parking lot at her place of employment in Santa Ana, Archer said. Numerous shots were fired, one of which struck the woman in the back.

Frank Lopez apparently had been living in National City in San Diego County, where he was arrested by San Diego sheriff’s deputies Wednesday for an unrelated domestic violence incident. He was taken to Santa Ana the same day, Archer said.
