150 Gather to Dedicate Intermediate School
The Santa Ana Unified School District held dedication ceremonies Thursday for its new intermediate campus, Raymond A. Villa Fundamental Intermediate School.
About 150 people attended the dedication and ribbon-cutting at the school, including Santa Ana Mayor Miguel Pulido, school administrators and residents.
The school, at 1441 E. Chestnut Ave., is named after a former Santa Ana councilman and community activist who died in 1992.
The California native attended UCLA after serving in the U.S. Army and owned an insurance company in Santa Ana. He became the first Latino member of the Santa Ana council in 1969.
Among those attending Thursday’s ceremony were Villa’s widow, Ruth, and four children.
“Our students are very proud of their school and have enjoyed learning the history of Raymond Villa,” Principal Greg Rankin said.
The $30-million campus occupies more than 11 acres and has 95,000 square feet of school space.
