A 29-year-old man was fatally shot during a fight with suspected gang members early Saturday, police said.

Francisco Rojas, of Canoga Park, died from a gunshot wound to the head, said Los Angeles Police Det. Rick Swanston. Rojas was not a gang member, authorities said.

Officers found Rojas about 1:30 a.m. in an alley behind the apartment complex where he lived in the 7000 block of Jordan Avenue, Swanston said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Rojas was shot when he and four relatives were attacked by four men armed with handguns and a baseball bat, authorities said. A man identified as Rojas’ brother suffered a broken jaw.

Police said the shooting followed an argument about 10:30 p.m. Friday. That dispute was between another one of Rojas’ brothers and the mother of one of the alleged attackers.

“There was bad blood between the two groups going back several months,” Swanston said.

The shooting remained under investigation Saturday, police said.
