Web Filter Lets Parents Screen Out Offensive Sites
Parents who want to prevent their children from viewing Internet Web sites they deem offensive now have another tool, offered for sale by the Anti-Defamation League.
The “ADL HateFilter” screens out Web sites the league has identified as promoting bigotry, including those of racist and anti-Semitic groups.
“Bigots are seducing our children with online messages presented in full-color animation with music and video,” David A. Lehrer, the league’s regional director, said. “As the enormous power of the Internet expands, so does the dark side of technology.”
Parents can enter a password to unblock a site if they want to view it and discuss it with their children.
The filter can be downloaded from the ADL Web site at https://www.adl.org. After a one-week free trial, the service costs $29.95 for the first three months, then $29.95 annually.
