At Issue With ‘Cristina’

Share

I’m still in shock after reading Kevin Baxter’s article on Cristina Saralegui (“In Any Language, It’s More Than Idle Chat,” Nov. 1).

For more years than I care to remember, “El Show de Cristina” has been a source of embarrassment for millions of Latinos in the U.S. To say that this show is “educational” is an insult to anybody’s intelligence.

Obviously, Baxter has never seen the show. Cristina comes across on television as an egomaniac with the charm and personality of a brick. Her Cuban slang destroys the Spanish language beyond recognition, and the contents of her show: pure unadulterated trash, with guests that are the scum of the Hispanic community.

To put in print that “El Show de Cristina” is bigger than el show de Oprah is false, misleading and, I would say, quite an insult to Miss Winfrey. It is clear that this article is not a piece of objective journalism but probably the workings of Cristina and her publicists. Give me a break!

It would have been more journalistic and interesting to do an investigative article on how and why people with no talent or any other redeeming quality manage to get a show on Hispanic television and thrive there for years. I am not only talking about obnoxious Cristina but also Don Francisco, Raul De Molina, Lili Estefan, etc.
