Toshiba America Hires Formichelli
Joseph C. Formichelli has joined Toshiba America Information Systems Inc. in Irvine in the newly created position of executive vice president for the computer systems group. He was most recently president and chief operating officer of Innovative Network Technologies in Austin, Texas. Formichelli was also president and chief executive of Hayes Microcomputer Products and spent 30 years at IBM Corp., including positions as general manager and vice president, worldwide operations; and general manager, mobile computing. In addition, Steven A. Russomanno has been appointed vice president of channel sales. He was formerly director of reseller sales for Compaq Computer Corp.

George Platisa has been named chief financial officer of PacifiCare of California in Cypress, the HMO subsidiary of PacifiCare Health Systems Inc. He succeeds Dave Barr, who is retiring. Platisa was most recently vice president of operations planning for the Walt Disney Co. Before that, he was with Price Waterhouse.

Keith D. Nosbusch has been appointed president of Rockwell Automation Control Systems, a unit of Costa Mesa-based Rockwell International Corp. Nosbusch was also named a corporate senior vice president and corporate officer. Nosbusch was previously senior vice president of Rockwell Automation’s Control & Information Group.

R. Terrence Crowley has been named to the newly created position of chief operating officer for Sunstone Hotel Investors Inc. in San Clemente. He will be responsible for acquisitions, finance and hotel construction as well as continue in his role as general counsel. Prior to joining Sunstone, Crowley was a partner in two San Francisco-based law firms.

Gary Belida has been named Orange County area director for the Corner Bakery restaurants. He has been with Brinker International, Corner Bakery’s parent company, since 1985, most recently with Chili’s Grill & Bar in San Diego.

The Orange County office of Ernst & Young LLP has added five partners to its practice. Dee Balle has been named an area director of health-care services. He will continue to serve as the firm’s director of health care for Arizona and New Mexico. Other partners are Chris Abston, Kathy Dagestino, Mike Denning and Mark Grinis.

Kathryn Brewer has been named vice president, director of special projects for Pleion Corp. in Santa Ana, a manufacturer of modular office furniture systems. She joined the company in 1995 as controller. Before that, Brewer was a principal for the consulting firm of KBS & Associates and chief financial officer at Rand Technology in Irvine.

Gary C. Campanaro has been appointed chief financial officer of the Keith Cos. in Costa Mesa. He was formerly senior vice president, managing officer for CB Commercial’s financial consulting group.

Shahrzad Marvasti has been named senior art director for TH&M; Advertising in Tustin. She has been with the agency since 1994, beginning as a production artist.

Jun Sakamoto has been named to the new position of Asian area coordinator for Furon Co. in Laguna Niguel. He previously held international sales and marketing positions in the company. Sakamoto joined Furon in 1994 after holding management positions with Nakamichi Corp., Los Angeles.

Mark Longfellow has been appointed national sales manager of manufactured housing for James Hardie Building Products in Mission Viejo. He was previously interior products sales manager. Longfellow has also been sales representative and national customer service manager.

George K. Palmer has joined Fluor Corp. in Irvine as vice president of corporate relations. He previously owned and managed a communications consulting firm. Before that, Palmer was vice president of corporate communications with Rhone-Poulenc, and held communications management positions during his 23 years with E. I. du Pont de Nemours and Co.

Michael Wilson has been named executive chef for Alcatraz Brewing Co.’s new location at the Block in Orange. He most recently served as opening chef for the company’s restaurant in Tempe, Ariz. Before that, he was executive chef for Faultline Brewing Co. in Sunnyvale.

Gary D. Mitchell has been appointed director of sales and marketing at the Anaheim Hilton & Towers. He succeeds Linda C. Simpson, who was named vice president, sales and marketing for the Western region. Mitchell was formerly area director of sales and marketing for Interstate Hotels Corp. in Parsippany, N.J., where he was responsible for the sales and marketing efforts for three Hilton properties.

Gordon Luster has joined the Laguna Cliffs Marriott Resort in Dana Point as general manager. He had been general manager at the San Diego Marriott Mission Valley since 1991.

Barry P. O’Neil has joined Palley-Needelman Asset Management Inc. in Newport Beach as senior vice president and national sales manager. Previously, O’Neil was a managing partner at Brandes Investment Partners LP, where he was responsible for national sales and marketing.
