SPECIAL TO THE TIMES

Uncovering fine merchandise at deeply discounted prices is the goal of the dedicated bargain shopper. A tiny shop on the Westside should fulfill all requirements of quality, service and, of course, price.

For 17 years, Brandeja has been an importer and wholesaler of fine leather goods selling to specialty stores and boutiques throughout the U.S. It now is offering the overage to the public at prices that reflect a policy of 10% over wholesale.

The inventory covers a wide range of prices, from cowhide wallets for $15 to alligator handbags for $2,500. In between are buffalo-skin handbags, ostrich attaches and crocodile belts, all at slightly over wholesale prices.

One ostrich attache case that retails for $3,000 is $1,540, and one that retails for more than $6,000 is $3,000 at Brandeja’s pricing.

The buffalo-skin pieces are very strong, whether it is a smooth grain or a coarser grain, and looks very much like calfskin. A buffalo tote bag that retails for $230 sells here for $125.

Brandeja is open to the public on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1 to 4 p.m., or by appointment. Owner Roxanne Jasper is offering some stunning gift-wrapping at a low cost. Brandeja, 9546 W. Pico Blvd., Los Angeles. (310) 203-0000. No credit cards.

Weekend Supersale: The place to be this weekend is the Doubletree Inn in Westwood for the Annual William Kasper Cashmere Sale. Women’s 100% cashmere crew, mock, turtle and V necks in nine colors will be $79, men’s $109. A blend of lycra (to prevent bagging) and cashmere slacks that retailed for $299 will be $39 (in limited colors and sizes), and cashmere skirts that have been selling for $359 will go for $49. Doubletree Inn, 10740 Wilshire Blvd., Westwood. Saturday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. No credit cards.
