Drugs or Diabetes?

* In the Nov. 15 Shop Talk column, an employer expressed concern about possible drug use by an employee and described symptoms that could indicate drug use. But these symptoms--frequent urination, heavy sweating and erratic behavior--are also classic signs of diabetes.

I would encourage the employer to discuss his/her concerns with the employee before asking the employee to agree to drug testing.
