Jonathan Kaye continued his torrid pace Saturday, moving to 19-under-par 269 to maintain his lead after four rounds of the PGA Tour final qualifying tournament at La Quinta.

Kaye shot a three-under 69 on the Weiskopf Course at PGA West, one of two being used in the six-day, 108-hole tournament. Kaye, a Nike Tour veteran, is one shot ahead of two-time PGA Tour winner Rick Fehr, who shot 67 on the same course.

Brent Schwartzrock and Greg Chalmers of England are tied for third at 271 in the chase for 35 exemptions to the 1999 PGA Tour.

Angel Cabrera and Richard Gonzalez took Argentina into the lead after three rounds of the wind-swept World Cup of Golf at Whangaparaoa, New Zealand.

Gusting winds were even more of a factor than in the first two rounds. Only five of the 64 players broke par 72.

Argentina started the day at one under, five behind leader England. Cabrera shot a 71 on Saturday and Gonzalez had a 72.

England’s Nick Faldo and David Carter were a shot behind the leaders, with individual leader Costantino Rocca helping Italy tie Ireland for third with Ireland at even par.

“It was a long, hard day out there,” said Faldo, who shot a 73. “It’s opened up for about six or more teams who can win it, but a brutal day. You’re just hitting a lot of shots you’re not in control of.”

John Daly continued to struggle in the powerful winds as the U.S. team slipped from one over par to eight over. Daly and Scott Verplank led at 10 under after 10 holes of the second round before losing 11 shots in the final eight holes to finish Friday’s round.

The Americans never got going Saturday and both had bogeys on the par-four opening hole. Daly had seven bogeys and two birdies for the day to finish the round at five-over 77. He had a 224 total. Verplank had a 74 and was at 216, even par for the tournament.
