Alarcon’s Last Council Meeting to Be Wednesday

Richard Alarcon, a Los Angeles city councilman who was elected to the state Senate in this month, will serve at his last City Council meeting Wednesday and will formally end his term with the city Dec. 4, his aides said Monday.

City Council President John Ferraro has said a legislative analyst, dubbed “a caretaker,” will temporarily fill Alarcon’s District 7 council seat--which represents the northeast San Fernando Valley--until a special election can be held in April to name a replacement.

Alarcon’s wife, Corina, is among those who have said they are interested in running for the seat.

Necessary political duties for the 7th District, such as introducing motions, will be handled by Ferraro in the interim.

Alarcon’s Senate inauguration is scheduled for Dec. 7. Because the last official day of his term falls in the middle of a council recess, his colleagues are expected to give a farewell presentation to Alarcon at the meeting Wednesday.
