Forty sections of the AIDS Memorial Quilt, one of the largest textiles in the world, will be displayed at Chapman University next week. Families who have lost loved ones to AIDS began sewing panels for the Names Project quilt in 1987. To date, project officials have collected 45,000 of these personal panels and sewn them into 12-by-12-foot sections. Chapman will kick off the memorial week with a display of four quilt sections in Pankey Lounge on Dec. 1, World AIDS Day. Members of the HIV Planning Advisory Council who have HIV, the virus that causes AIDS, will tell their stories at 11 a.m. on the first floor of Argyros Forum. On Dec. 6, the other 36 panels that make up the quilt will be on display. Religious leaders will hold an interfaith observance at 3:30 p.m. in Argyros Forum, Room 208. A candlelight vigil at 6:15 p.m. at the Gentle Springs fountain will cap the event. The campus is at 333 N. Glassell St. Information: (714) 997-6607.
