The city is asking an engineering firm to help find a site to locate a new five- or 10-million-gallon water tank to replace the one that ruptured Sept. 21. The City Council authorized Public Works Director Brad Fowler to negotiate a contract with Montgomery Watson of Pasadena to evaluate six potential sites throughout the city. After the five-million-gallon tank on Hefley Street ruptured, the city’s other five-million-gallon tank on Monroe Street was drained as a precaution. City officials are considering making improvements to that second tank, although some say it might make better economic sense to build a new one elsewhere. The report will cost about $97,000 and is expected by Dec. 14.
