Tribute to Pellerin Is Planned

USC is planning a tribute to Giles Pellerin before the Notre Dame game Saturday at the Coliseum.

Pellerin, the Trojans’ “Super Fan” who died Saturday at the Rose Bowl at 91, had witnessed every USC-Notre Dame game ever played as part of his record 797-game streak.

His first Notre Dame game was in 1926 at the Coliseum, a 13-12 Notre Dame victory. Saturday’s game will be the 70th in the series.

Which is bigger for USC, UCLA or Notre Dame?

“You’re going to get me in trouble with that one,” USC Coach Paul Hackett said last week as he prepared to play the Bruins. “I’m not going to answer that one.”

The USC-UCLA game hits closest to home and has recruiting implications in Southern California, but Notre Dame remains its own event.

“You can never tell Notre Dame that they’re not the most important game on anyone’s schedule,” Hackett said.
