Flutist Tim Weisberg, the jazz fusion pioneer whose smart, pastoral style of play entranced jazz and pop audiences of the ‘70s, is now a smooth jazz icon, rarely seen, yet still a master at transporting his listeners with music. His performance should be especially inspired in this comfortable room.

Kristjan Jarvi conducts the first Symphonies for Youth concert of the season this weekend. With John de Lancie as host and pianist Wayne Marshall as soloist, Jarvi, one of the Los Angeles Philharmonic’s three assistant conductors, leads the orchestra in music by Mozart, Ravel, Copland and Gershwin.

Bob Fosse, the renowned dance choreographer and director of numerous Broadway musicals, also directed eight feature films. The Laemmle Theaters are celebrating Fosse’s film work in the morning weekend series “All That Fosse!” The bittersweet 1969 musical “Sweet Charity,” which stars a perfectly cast Shirley MacLaine as a hooker with a heart of gold, will show twice at the Monica 4-Plex, while “Star 80,” the 1983 biopic of tragic Playboy model turned actress Dorothy Stratten, shows at the Sunset 5.
