The feud gets a temporary cease-fire today, when USC plays Notre Dame and the Bruins (gulp) root for the Trojans.
A USC victory over No. 9 Notre Dame would be a boost for UCLA’s standing in the bowl championship series because strength of schedule is one of the factors.
UCLA would also be helped if Miami beats Syracuse today. That’s assuming UCLA beats Miami Dec. 5 at the Orange Bowl.
Good news for the Bruins already came Friday with Texas’ victory over No. 6 Texas A&M.; UCLA beat the Longhorns in the season opener. The Aggies’ loss also takes some of the luster off next week’s Big 12 championship game for Kansas State, which is hoping to land one of the top two spots in the BCS rankings.

Kicker Chris Sailer, center Shawn Stuart and guard Andy Meyers were named to the GTE/CoSIDA academic all-district team, thereby going on the ballot for academic All-American.
The three, plus receiver Danny Farmer and linebacker Ramogi Huma, were selected to the academic all-conference squad.
