*** 1/2 Chris Isaak, “Speak of the Devil,” Reprise. Isaak finally breaks his longtime formula on this release, turning in perhaps the most powerful--albeit darkest--work of his career. Heart-wrenching lost love is the theme, and songs such as “Please” and “Wanderin’ ” flow with passion. This is one of those albums people may turn to when going through their own romantic travails.
