Scotts Co., maker of lawn and garden products, said it will close most of its U.S. composting business, shed its AgrEvo pesticides business and cut 20% of its work force in Britain in a plan to increase pretax profit by $10 million to $12 million.

Unisource Worldwide Inc., the largest U.S. distributor of paper and janitorial supplies, said it plans to sell its Mexican operation and take a charge of as much as $70 million in the fourth quarter.
