Metal Detectors to Be Installed at Theme Parks

Permanent metal detectors will be installed at the shared entrance to the Magic Mountain and Hurricane Harbor theme parks, officials of the parks’ operator, Six Flags, said Friday.
By December, all visitors will be required to pass through the screening devices.
“Metal detectors are becoming more common in our society, at airports and even schools,” said Magic Mountain spokesman Andy Gallardo. “Our security program is very thorough. This adds another layer of redundancy to our security efforts.”
Six Flags representatives denied that the move is related to a fatal shooting at Magic Mountain in April and mob disturbances in May.
Although metal detectors are commonly used at concert venues and other area amusement parks on a limited basis, Magic Mountain and Hurricane Harbor are believed to be the first Southern California parks to install the devices on a permanent basis.
