Weber State Wears Down Sacramento, 27-14

Morgan Welch rushed for 156 yards and a touchdown to help Weber State down Cal State Sacramento, 27-14, on Saturday night in a Big Sky Conference game.

The Wildcats (5-0, 3-0 in conference play) were holding a 13-6 lead after three quarters but broke away when Chris Wallace threw a five-yard touchdown pass to William Hawes and Rashard Magee ran 34 yards for a touchdown on a reverse.

Charles Roberts rushed for 151 yards in 27 carries and scored on a seven-yard run for Sacramento (2-3, 0-2) with 50 seconds left.

Scott Shields kicked field goals of 46 and 29 yards for Weber State and Scott Brown countered from 33 and 29 yards for the Hornets.

Montana 20, Portland State 17--Backup Sean Davis hit Jeremy Watkins for an eight-yard touchdown pass with 29 seconds left to bail out the Grizzlies at Missoula, Mont.

Portland State (1-3, 1-2) lost its last chance when quarterback Jimmy Blanchard fumbled on the Montana 48 with three seconds left.

Davis, a sophomore, completed 28 of 47 passes for 297 yards and two touchdowns for Montana (3-2, 1-1) in relief of Brian Ah Yat, who went out with a bruised back in the first quarter.

Watkins had 10 receptions for 93 yards.

Eastern Washington 21, Northern Arizona 17--Finally playing like conference champions, the Eagles built a two-touchdown lead and held off the Lumberjacks at Cheney, Wash.

Senior Mike Mackenzie, who rushed for 99 yards in 21 carries, scored on runs of 11 and two yards to stake Eastern Washington (1-3, 1-2) to a 14-7 halftime lead.

The Eagles stretched the lead to 21-7 when Griffin Garske, who completed 11 of 24 passes for 190 yards, connected with Lamont Brightful on a 45-yard touchdown pass play.

Backup quarterback David Moran kept the Lumberjacks (3-2, 0-2) in the game with a 32-yard touchdown run in the second quarter and hooked up with Francis St. Paul on a 76-yard touchdown pass in the third quarter.

Moran, replacing injured Travis Brown, completed nine of 19 passes for 150 yards and rushed seven times for 61 yards.

Idaho 52, Idaho State 3--Joel Thomas rushed for 168 yards and two touchdowns for the Vandals in a nonconference game at Pocatello, Idaho.

Idaho (3-2) amassed 574 yards, 359 rushing, and held the Bengals (1-3) to 185 yards.
