Texas’ Williams Moves Up With 350 Yards, 5 TDs

Ricky Williams set a Texas single-game rushing record Saturday, running for 350 yards and five touchdowns as the Longhorns defeated Iowa State, 54-33, in a Big 12 Conference game.

Williams scored on runs of 12, 68, 23, six and one yard. He also:

* Broke Roosevelt Leaks’ single-game Texas rushing record of 342 set in 1973 against Southern Methodist.

* Moved into fourth place on the NCAA career rushing list with 5,241 yards, passing Ohio State’s Archie Griffin (5,177).

* Became the NCAA career leader in rushing touchdowns with 65, passing Indiana’s Anthony Thompson (64).

* Became the NCAA’s highest scoring non-kicker with 404 points, passing Thompson (394).

* With 1,086 yards and a 217.2 average per game, moved past Texas Tech’s Ricky Williams (929 yards, 185.8 average) as the nation’s leading rusher.

* Had his ninth game of 200 yards-plus rushing and second in a row of 300 yards or more--getting 318 and six touchdowns against Rice last week.

Texas is 3-2 overall and 1-1 in the Big 12. Iowa State is 2-3 and 0-2.
