Costa Mesa City Council

* AIRPORT DEBATE: Officials will consider changing the city’s neutral stance on the El Toro airport debate.

City Councilman Joe Erickson wants the city to propose a transportation hub the size of John Wayne Airport, with the same noise restrictions and passenger caps as the closing military base.

Mayor Peter Buffa has proposed that the city join a pro-airport coalition of cities, which advocates a major commercial airport.

* SENIOR APARTMENTS: The council will consider a proposal to build 183 senior apartments on a 3.25-acre parcel at Bradford Avenue and Carlson Lane. Neighbors opposed the project’s original plans, but builder Whelan Property Management Inc. has proposed revisions, including removing third floors on apartments bordering a single-family neighborhood. The city’s Planning Commission approved the project last month. But some residents still raised concerns about the density and complained the development would add traffic and change the character of the neighborhood.
