The City Council has approved the second phase of the six-mile Ventura River Trail, which will ultimately link the Ojai mountains to Ventura beaches.

The council voted Monday to immediately begin accepting bids for the second phase of the $4-million project. Bids are due Nov. 3.

The first phase was completed in September. It included grading and paving for a 3/4-mile trail for jogging, bicycling and horseback riding from Foster Park south to Ventura Avenue. The second phase would include grading and paving for the remainder of the trails.

The trail begins at Ojai Valley Trail in Foster Park and runs along the Ventura River and California 33, connecting with the oceanfront Omer Rains Trail.
