A free nature walk Saturday will teach hikers about which plants are edible and which should be avoided.
The forest hike is sponsored by the Ojai Valley chapter of the American Red Cross.
The day will begin with a 30-minute video titled “Love Vine and Thorn Apple: Getting to Know Common California Wild Plants.”
“This information is lifesaving,” said Dale Hanson, a member of the Red Cross Disaster Emergency team. “We should all know it.”
Leading the hike will be John Christianson, the former program director for the Matilija Environmental Sciences Area. He has been leading nature walks in the Ojai Valley since 1982.
Participants should wear comfortable shoes and a hat and bring water.
The event begins at 9 a.m. and ends at 11:30 a.m. Call 646-7229 for more information.
