State Chips In for Arts School’s Move

Share

State lawmakers recently approved $700,000 to help the Orange County High School of the Arts pay for a move from Los Alamitos High School to a site on Bloomfield Street, officials said.

The high school, which turned away 600 perspective students this year, has raised $6 million toward its $18.2-million campus-building goal.

Sens. Ross Johnson (R-Irvine) and Betty Karnette (D-Long Beach) applied for the funds on behalf of the campus.

“The importance of the arts in our culture cannot and should not be overlooked,” Karnette said in a statement. “The Orange County High School of the Arts will play a critical role in shaping the creative energy of students, helping define our civilization in the next millennium.”
