A Rancho Dominguez woman who sat in her car as she prepared to leave for work was shot to death by an assailant who sped away in a car, sheriff’s detectives said.

Chaunise Williams, 21, was shot twice in the upper body about 7:45 a.m. Friday. She was pronounced dead at the scene in front of her home in the 16600 block of Muriel Avenue, said Deputy Bob Killeen.

No arrests had been made and investigators did not know the motive, Killeen said.

Relatives declined requests for interviews. But neighbors said that Williams was a student of Santa Monica College and a mother of one.

“She was a very nice girl,” said Yolanda Hayes, a neighbor. “[The victim’s family are] very nice people.”

People on the block said their well-maintained neighborhood was very peaceful and they were taken aback by Williams’ death.
