Seasonal Temperatures Expected for the Week

Cool mornings and mild afternoons with mostly sunny skies are expected through Friday across the San Fernando Valley, a forecaster said Sunday.

“It’s very seasonable this week and there shouldn’t be any surprises that would hamper people’s outdoor plans,” said Scott Breit, a meteorologist with WeatherData Inc., which provides forecast information for The Times.

Today’s forecast calls for sunny skies and afternoon temperatures in the low to mid-80s. The warmest spot in the Valley is expected to be Chatsworth, which could see a high of 86. Slightly cooler temperatures are expected for Van Nuys, Woodland Hills and Burbank.

Afternoon temperatures on Tuesday through Thursday should be a few degrees cooler as a result of a mild onshore flow, Breit said. West Valley communities are expected to see highs in the upper 70s to low 80s during those days, while East Valley areas should remain stable in the mid-70s.

Beginning Friday, offshore winds from the east are expected to bring warmer temperatures, ranging from the low to mid-80s, Breit said. Morning temperatures should range between the upper 40s to mid-50s through Friday.

The ultraviolet index level today in the Valley at noon, when the sun’s rays are most direct, is expected to be five, a moderate level of exposure. Breit said individuals with fair complexions will start to burn in 10 to 12 minutes unless protected.
