Keeping an eye out for future freshmen, top administrators of UC Santa Barbara visited the Oxnard Elementary School District on Monday.

“We are seeking a new era of cooperation between the university and the Oxnard school district,” said Chancellor Henry Yang. “Our goal is to ensure that more students become eligible to attend the University of California. I consider our efforts a true collaboration based on mutual respect and appreciation.”

Arthur Joe Lopez, president of the Oxnard school board, challenged local educators to do whatever it takes to help children learn English, math, science and the humanities.

“For the good of our kids, this city and this country, let’s advance today the cause of higher education by starting with the elementary school,” Lopez said. “Let us make good on the promise of a good life with a university education, not just for some, but for everyone.”
