The Board of Education has selected 14 architectural firms to assist in the modernization of 33 campuses.

School administrators selected the firms from among 41 that submitted bids for the work, which will be paid for with Measure Y funds.

Of those selected, a dozen are based in the Pasadena Unified School District, which serves Pasadena, Sierra Madre and Altadena.

Each firm will be responsible for planning and design at various campuses. District spokeswoman Betsy Richman said officials are negotiating fees based on 8% to 10% of construction costs at each campus. The state sets a 12% cap on such projects.

Voters last November approved Measure Y, a $240-million bond issue to renovate schools.

The architectural firms were selected based on local experience, public school experience, historic preservation experience and minority participation, Richman said.

The firms selected are: Miralles Associates of Altadena, CHCG Architects of Pasadena, Langdon & Wilson of Los Angeles, Fleming Corp. of Pasadena, Osborn Architects of Glendale, HMC Group of Pasadena, Perkins & Will of Pasadena, Flewelling & Moody of Pasadena, La Canada Design Group, PBWS Architects of Pasadena, Charles T. Bryant & Associates of Pasadena, HCA Partners Inc. of Pasadena, PMA of Pasadena and Clerkin & Clerkin of Pasadena.
