Who’s Left for Yankees? In This Case, It’s Ledee

Yankee Manager Joe Torre continued to play musical left fielders Tuesday night, starting Ricky Ledee in Game 6 after playing Shane Spencer, Chad Curtis and Tim Raines there in the first five games. Spencer, Curtis and Raines combined to go one for 19.

“I figured, why not?” Torre said. “It could go one way or another. He’s a young guy, and whatever he gives us is a bonus. I’ve tried everyone else out in left field, I just thought we would give it a shot.”

Ledee went 0 for 4. Auditions for the World Series begin this weekend.

The Indians and Yankees combined to hit .208 (69 for 332) and score 33 runs in the first five games of the series, but through five innings Tuesday night they battered each other around for 11 runs and 15 hits.

New York built a 6-0 lead with a two-run first, which included singles by Derek Jeter and Paul O’Neill, Bernie Williams’ RBI single and Chili Davis’ sacrifice fly. They Yankees made it 3-0 in the second when Cleveland left fielder Brian Giles mishandled Chuck Knoblauch’s double, and 6-0 in the third on Scott Brosius’ three-run homer to center against Indian starter Charles Nagy.
