7:30 pm: Dance

In their first four years they were the Fosse Awards. But now, to avoid confusion with other Fosse-related projects, they’ve been renamed the American Choreography Awards. Still, the focus remains on recognizing dance excellence within the entertainment industry. Winners are selected by a peer panel of more than 30 dancers, choreographers and educators in five categories: motion pictures, TV variety shows or specials, TV series, TV commercials, and music videos. In addition, honorary awards are given and the awards show traditionally attracts a wide range of celebrities. Presenters Sunday will include Robert Duvall, Quincy Jones and John Lithgow, with Shirley MacLaine, Julie Newmar, Edward Villella, Chita Rivera and Ann Reinking also on hand, according to event organizers.

7 am: Benefit

Actor Edward James Olmos and other celebrities will initiate the Run 4 L.A. benefit at West Los Angeles Veterans Affairs Medical Center to raise money for at-risk youth. Funds will be used to build an Entertainment Arts Training Complex to serve Los Angeles youth.

The nine-day Yiddish cultural festival Yiddishkayt! A Celebration for All Ages--the New Face of an Enduring Culture gets into full swing Sunday with Viva Klezmer, a concert where the stars of klezmer and mariachi share the stage (Only in Los Angeles). Later, Yiddish actor Yankev Lewin performs “200,000,” a theatrical staging of Sholem Aleichem’s classic story, and Eleanor Reissa sings classics from the Yiddish Theater. Events continue through Oct. 25 citywide.

All day: Home Tour

The Sierra Madre Historical Preservation Society will host a tour of four architecturally significant homes in the city as part of Pioneer Days. Guests can purchase tickets at any of the houses and may visit them in any order. Open for tour will be: El Retiro (the Retreat), 171 S. Baldwin Ave., a restored 1911 Craftsman designed by Pasadena architect George Webster; a Spanish colonial revival house at 585 W. Grandview Ave., a 1927 home restored after the 1991 Sierra Madre earthquake; Fairview House, 630 Fairview Ave., a two-story 3,500-square-foot home custom built in 1991; Ward Ranch, 273 E. Highland Ave., the only remaining original Sierra Madre ranch, it was first purchased in 1891 and the home built in 1903.

Comics Bobby Collins, Sue Murphy and others will entertain Sunday at the Comics Choice 7, a fund-raiser at the Improv on Melrose to raise money for safe and legal abortions for low-income women.

7:30 pm: Jazz

Lionel Hampton is the grand man of jazz vibraphone, the musician who, with the Benny Goodman orchestra in the 1930s, brought the instrument out of obscurity with “Flying Home.” Here, Hampton and his New York band celebrate his 90th year with help from composer-pianist Lalo Schifrin, singer Ernie Andrews, pianist Gerald Wiggins, comedian-author-composer Steve Allen and others. Proceeds benefit the Lionel and Gladys Hampton Jazz History Educational Foundation.
