An electrical fire left 32 people--who were reportedly packed into four one-bedroom units--temporarily homeless Tuesday night.

The fire at 8881 Pacific Ave., reported shortly after 10 p.m., started in the electrical system inside the walls between the four apartments, Orange County Fire Authority Capt. Scott Brown said.

Firefighters controlled the blaze by 10:49 p.m. It caused $45,000 worth of damage to the building and personal property.

The 18 adults and 14 children living in the apartments all refused an offer of free housing for the night.

Instead, they opted to stay with friends or camp out on their own patios, Red Cross spokeswoman Barbara Jackson said.
