County OKs $3 Million for Parks Along Creek

The Los Angeles Board of Supervisors has approved a $3-million project to buy small parcels of land along Compton Creek and create miniature parks.

The project, which will be supervised by the Mountains Recreation and Conservation Authority, will mirror the one underway in the Elysian Valley, said Rorie Skei, the authority’s deputy for resources and planning.

The authority will buy small areas of land along the creek and add trees, benches and picnic tables, Skei said.

“This is a way to green the river, enhance communities and provide access to the river pathways,” she said.

The project will use funds from the county’s Safe Neighborhood and Parks proposition that was passed two years ago.

Compton Creek runs from the city of Compton through Rancho Dominguez and meets the Los Angeles River in north Long Beach.
