Chairs, tables, chandeliers and other objects designed by major 20th century architects ranging from Charles Eames to Frank Gehry will be offered at an Oct. 25 auction in Beverly Hills.

“This sale is dedicated to California architects,” said Peter Loughrey, whose Los Angeles Modern Auctions specializes in original designs by architects from 1900 to the present.

The auction specifically taps into Los Angeles’ rich design history, he said.

“Some people say that Los Angeles has no culture, but we do,” he said. “Ours is the recent past, specifically the period after World War II.”

Designers whose works will be auctioned also include Richard Neutra, Rudolph Schindler, Warren McArthur, K.E.M. Weber and Paul Laszlo.

“It’s the first time I’ve been able to get pieces from the Los Angeles period of all these architects,” Loughrey said. “It’s interesting because of the scope of items we have.”

The “hot items” list includes a Neutra walnut “Camel” table and set of white-vinyl dining chairs from a Beverly Hills house designed about 1950 by the architect; four tubular aluminum side chairs designed by McArthur for his Los Angeles office before he moved to New York; a Weber “Airline” chair made exclusively for Walt Disney in 1934 and a Schindler chair from the 1943 Van Patten House in Los Angeles.

More than 450 items will be auctioned starting at 1 p.m. in leased space in the I.M. Chait Gallery, 9930 Civic Center Drive in Beverly Hills. Santa Monica Auctions is also offering prints and paintings by contemporary artists.

The items can be previewed Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Chait Gallery. For more information or to order a 56-page, full-color catalog, call (323) 845-9456. The company’s Web site is https://www.lamodern.com.
