BORREGO SPRINGS--This small town surrounded by Anza-Borrego Desert State Park holds the Borrego Days Festival next weekend. Arts and crafts and entertainment begin at 9 a.m. Friday, Oct. 23, and continue through Sunday, Oct. 25, in and around the malls and Christmas Circle Community Park. Floats, clowns and marching bands parade down Palm Canyon Drive at 11 a.m. Saturday. On Sunday, a pancake breakfast and horseshoe tournament are among the highlights. Free. (800) 559-5524.

GEYSERVILLE--This one-stop-sign wine country community is uncorking its annual Fall Colors Festival and Vintage Car Show next weekend. Vintage cars and food booths will line downtown streets 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 25. Pre-festival events include the Amateur Wine Making Contest on Friday, Oct. 23, and the River Valley Pre-School Harvest Dinner Dance & Silent Auction on Saturday, Oct. 24 ($15). PASO ROBLES--El Paso de Robles (Pass of the Oaks) is home to thousands of oak trees--and to the annual Golden Oak Festival Saturday, Oct. 24. BIG BEAR LAKE--Build up those biceps now for the log-sawing and stein-holding contests at the 28th annual Oktoberfest. Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 24-25, are the final days of the traditional fall family event. Dance to the music of the Express Band.
