Resident Shoots at Intruder Who Entered Home

A man who broke into a couple’s home before Sunday dinner was sent running after one of the intended victims shot at him, authorities said.

Rich and Yvonne Wilson were preparing dinner at their house in the 24200 block of Creekside Road when a 6-foot-7-inch, 200-pound man walked into the room at about 7:30 p.m., showed them his gun and ordered them to the upstairs bedroom, said Sheriff’s Lt. Tim Peters of the Santa Clarita Station.

Peters said the intruder might have thought the house belonged to someone else.

“He was looking for someone,” Peters said. “This could have been a case of mistaken identity.”

The gunman tied up the Wilsons with torn bedsheets and left them as he rummaged through the rest of the house. The pair managed to untie themselves and lock the bedroom door. The husband then armed himself with a gun he keeps in the bedroom, Peters said.

When the intruder returned to the bedroom and tried to enter, the husband shot at him through the door. “They heard the robber run down the stairs and out of the house,” Peters said.

Sheriff’s Department SWAT officers and K-9 units searched the area, but did not find the man, who was dressed in black pants and a white shirt.

The Wilsons were not verbally threatened or physically harmed, Peters said.

The Wilsons could not be reached for comment Monday.
