Crowding Prompts New School Boundary
Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District trustees this week approved new boundaries for some students attending Glenknoll Elementary.
The boundary change drew opposition from some parents who don’t want their children to switch schools. About two dozen students are affected.
The attendance boundary between Glenknoll and Woodsboro elementary schools was adjusted because of construction on the nearby Fairmont Boulevard overpass and class crowding.
The bridge, expected to be completed by late February or March, will provide walking access to Woodsboro from new residential developments in the East Lake Village area of Yorba Linda.
District officials said Glenknoll is experiencing growth and is already at capacity. At Woodsboro, enrollment is expected to remain stable over the next five years and the school can easily accommodate the additional students, officials said.
Children from the new development who are attending Glenknoll can remain there until the end of the school year. For students who want to immediately transfer to Woodsboro, the district will provide busing until the new overpass is open to pedestrian traffic.
