Girl, 4, Dies After Car Backs Over Her at Costa Mesa Home
A 4-year-old Costa Mesa girl died Monday after her father apparently backed over her with his car, police said.
The incident happened about 5 p.m. at the family’s home in the 700 block of West 18th Street, said Costa Mesa Police spokesman Lt. Tom Curtis.
The girl was transported to Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian in Newport Beach, where she was pronounced dead, officials said. Her identity and further details were not immediately available. Police said the investigation was continuing.
At the scene Monday night, neighbors and family members gathered in front of the house, weeping and hugging one another. The house was cordoned off with yellow police tape as officers conducted interviews.
