Team Is Mindful of All the Positives

Returning to the Arrowhead Pond for their home opener brought back a flood of memories of last season for the Ducks on Wednesday--none of them good.

“Sometimes, our minds just weren’t there,” right wing Teemu Selanne said. “Right now, I really don’t want to think about last season. There are a lot of good things around our team now. That’s all that matters now.”

No way at all, Teemu? Not even if Eric Lindros or Chris Pronger became a Duck today? “Well . . . “ Selanne said, smiling.

Asked about last season’s failures under former coach Pierre Page, new Coach Craig Hartsburg stuck to his training camp routine of not answering.

“I can’t comment on what Pierre went through,” Hartsburg said. “All I know, as a coaching staff, everything has been real positive with the players. Whether you play good or play brutal, you’ve got to stay on the right page and do what’s going to make us successful.

“When a new coach comes in, obviously, there’s lots of different circumstances. Since we’ve come in, the players have been very approachable.”
