* A Los Angeles County Superior Court judge has delayed a decision on whether to stop airport officials from reducing from 38 to three the number of full-service shuttle van companies operating at Los Angeles International Airport. Judge Robert O’Brien has scheduled a Nov. 5 hearing to determine whether he’ll issue a preliminary injunction that would derail the three-company plan.

* A survey by the state Department of Insurance shows that the number of uninsured motorists in California has dropped by about 6% since July 1997, which the department attributed to new laws that require drivers to have proof of insurance when registering their vehicles and that eliminate recovery of certain damages to uninsured drivers. The study said that Los Angeles, Orange and San Diego counties accounted for 50% of the state’s uninsured vehicles.

* Calabasas Hills-based Cheesecake Factory Inc. reported third-quarter net income of $4.2 million, or 21 cents per share, on revenue of $68.6 million, compared with $2.9 million, or 17 cents, on revenue of $53.6 million a year ago. Earnings-per-share amounts for both quarters reflect a 3-for-2 stock split in April.
