Titans Lose in Men’s Soccer

Matt Annis’ second-half goal lifted Washington to a 2-1 victory over Cal State Fullerton in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation men’s soccer game Sunday in Seattle.

It was the first conference loss for the Titans (10-4-1, 3-1), who had upset second-ranked UCLA earlier in the season. There are five teams in the conference with one loss, including Washington (13-2, 5-1).

Cal State Fullerton’s Colby Jackson scored after a run up the right sideline to put the Titans ahead, 1-0, in the the 33rd minute. But Washington tied it about a minute later when Viet Nguyen scored on a header.

Annis scored the game-winner on a header in the 77th minute.

In another Mountain Pacific Sports Federation game:

Oregon State 1, UC Irvine 0--Ben Roth scored in 42nd minute for Oregon Sate. The Anteaters are 7-8, 1-3.

In nonconference water polo:

UC Irvine 8, Pepperdine 6--Senior Ryan Bailey scored six goals to lead second-ranked UC Irvine at Heritage Park in Irvine.

Bailey, who has 57 goals this season, scored three in the second quarter and the Anteaters (12-5) led, 6-3, at halftime.

Former Costa Mesa High standout Robert Grayeli scored two goals for Pepperdine (6-8), which is ranked fifth.

In Big West Conference women’s soccer:

UC Irvine 2, Idaho 0--Senior Danica Hold scored her first goal of the season with a header off teammate Simone Ferrara’s corner kick in the 55th minute. Nicole Bucciarelli got her 12th goal of the season on a direct kick from about 25 yards.

Sophomore goalkeeper Kirsten Roy, a former Mission Viejo High standout, recorded her 10th shutout of the season, setting a UCI single-season record.

CS Fullerton 1, Boise State 0--Valentina McAfee scored in the 38th minute on a header for CS Fullerton (8-8-1, 4-2-1).
