Museum Center Will Mark Day of the Dead

Share

The Fullerton Museum Center is preparing for a communitywide celebration of the Mexican Dia de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead.

On Sunday, the museum will dedicate an ofrenda, or altar, created by artist Lucy Ruiz in the museum lobby. Ofrendas are a focal point of Day of the Dead festivities and are designed to honor deceased relatives.

Observed each Nov. 1 in Mexico, the holiday allows families an opportunity to honor their departed ancestors with offerings of food, flowers and mementos.

Members of the public are invited to bring photos or nonperishable food commemorating their own departed family members to place on the altar throughout the day. The dedication of the museum’s ofrenda will be at 1 p.m.

All photos should be labeled on the back and can be picked up at the museum Nov. 11, after the ofrenda has been dismantled.

The museum address is 301 N. Pomona Ave. Information: (714) 738-6545.
