* Story line: The Bruins take their new No. 1 standing in the Bowl Championship Series ratings out for a test drive against a team that has given up at least 30 points in the last seven games, tying Oregon’s 1986 team for the longest such streak in Pac-10 history.

* UCLA update: A win will tie the best Bruin start since 1988. The 1954 national champions, who went 9-0, and the ’66 team also opened 7-0.

* Stanford update: The Cardinal is playing a ranked opponent for the fourth time in eight games, after Arizona, Oregon and Notre Dame. Flanker Troy Walters is back after sitting out all of two games and most of two others because of a sprained ankle. He has 16 catches for 290 yards and two touchdowns the last two games, helping Stanford get within seven points of Oregon State and into overtime at Arizona State before losing by six.
